About Me

With 15 years experience as a course instructor and 8 years in systems administration/technology, I am able to combine my exceptional instructional design skills with a solid understanding of technology. In short, I understand how people learn and I understand what you need them to learn.

I have experience and training creating curriculum in multiple subject matter expertises. I was a pioneer in using instructional technology and instrumental in helping other instructors integrate technology into their courses and developed professional development programs for my colleagues. I have both training and experience with a variety of learning management systems.

During the global pandemic, I took the lead in providing training and guidance to my colleagues as they prepared their courses to be fully online, and I successfully developed and implemented a plan for hybrid learning when our company provided in-person learning to a portion of learners. Educational projects I have developed include a museum of replica Chinese artifacts, a board game simulating the African gold-salt trade, writing "boot camp" to level up writing skills, a week-long mock trial/debate based on Japanese history, and a symposium replicating an Enlightenment era salon.

My instructional work has been recognized and honored with the Mason-McDuffie Outstanding Educator award, our district's Outstanding Arts/Academic Integration Award. Projects from my courses have been presented to Governor Jerry Brown and renowned architect Frank Gehry. I am also recognized by my colleagues as a leader and mentor.

In addition to my exceptional instructional skills, I have strong technical skills and knowledge. I was a systems administrator and video technician with Industrial Light + Magic, a special effects company that is a subsidary of Lucasfilm. In that capacity, I was primarily responsible for maintaining consistent color temperature on all artist desktop systems across the facility, installing and troubleshooting Unix/Linux-based end-user systems, and managing data back up and restorations across all platforms (Unix, Linux, Mac, PC). I oversaw day to day operation of five data tape robot systems, and coordinated CPU upgrades on desktop systems with an efficient process that brought the company significant cost savings.
